Portugal, officially the Portuguese Republic (Portuguese: República Portuguesa) is a country in southwestern Europe, lying in the western part of the Iberian Peninsula. It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the west and south, and by Spain to the north and east. Its capital and largest city is Lisbon.
It's the country with the eldest fronteers in Europe; since its formation, Portugal lost only Olivenza to Spain. Olivenza is disputed by Spain and Portugal (see more here).
Portugal was the pioneer in the discovery of the New World and the sea way to India, and the founder of the first and longest Colonial Empire (from the conquist of Ceuta to the ceasing of Macau to the Chinese).
