Following is a list of well-known species of maple tree, many of these are ornamentals and are planted as specimen trees:
- Acer japonica
- Acer negundo
- Acer nipponicum
- Acer palmatum "Japanese Maple"
- Acer rubrum, Canada’s national tree.
- Acer saccarum. "Sugar Maple", the main provider of maple syrup
