Vicky Hartzler (1960-) is a teacher, small business author and who became a member of the Missouri state legislature (1995-2001), who defeated senior Democratic representative Ike Skelton in 2010, to represent the 4th Congressional District of Missouri of Missouri.
She is an activist in the Christian Right, who wrote a book on campaigning, Running God's Way, and represented the Coalition to Protect Marriage in Missouri, which successfully worked to ban same-sex marriage in the state.
A Tea Party activist, her campaign used anti-incumbent strategy against Skelton, who is also a social conservative. In her campaign, she argued that Skelton had failed in job creation and had no private business experience.[1]
