Welcome, new editor! We're very glad you've joined us. Here are pointers for a quick start. Also, when you get a chance, please read The Editor Role. You can look at Getting Started for other helpful introductory pages. It is essential for you as an editor to join the Citizendium-Editors (broadcast) mailing list in order to stay abreast of editor-related issues, as well as the mailing list(s) that concern your particular interests. It is also important, for project-wide matters, to join the Citizendium-L (broadcast) mailing list. You can test out editing in the sandbox if you'd like. If you need help to get going, the forums is one option. That's also where we discuss policy and proposals. You can ask any constable for help, too. Me, for instance! Just put a note on their "talk" page. Again, welcome and thank you! We appreciate your willingness to share your expertise, and we hope to see your edits on Recent changes soon. Some ideas for contributions

Hi George, welcome aboard CZ. Roger has already given you some hints as to how things work here in general, and I wish to add some more practical suggestions on what possibilities you have to contribute. For a start, I just took some of the keywords from the information you supplied upon registration (and some that I found on your homepage), and display below the current state of related CZ articles (for icon documentation, see Template:Rpl/Doc):

  • Approved Article Biology: The science of life — of complex, self-organizing, information-processing systems living in the past, present or future. [e]
  • Stub Zoology: The scientific study of animals. [e]
  • Developing Article Ecology: The study of the distribution and abundance of organisms and how they are affected by the environment. [e]
  • Developing Article Biodiversity: The study of the range of life forms in a given ecosystem. [e]
  • Developing Article Evolution: A change over time in the proportions of individual organisms differing genetically. [e]
  • Sexual selection: A type of natural selection due to within-sex competition for successful mating. [e]
  • Stub Emotion: A psychophysiological process underlying the interpretation of situations or objects by an animal. [e]
  • PhD thesis: Add brief definition or description
  • Stub Research peer review: Evaluation by experts of the quality and pertinence of research or research proposals of other experts in the same field. [e]
  • Developed Article Impact factor: A widely used annual measure of how often the papers recently published in an academic journal have been cited in the academic literature. [e]
  • Stub Science 2.0: An umbrella term used to label the use of Web 2.0 tools for scientific purposes. [e]
  • Stub Scientific journal: A publication venue for original research and scholarly review articles — for more than three centuries on paper and now increasingly online. [e]
  • Developed Article Academic journal: A regularly-published, peer-reviewed publication that publishes scholarship relating to an academic discipline. [e]
  • Developing Article South Korea: A democratic republic in East Asia, occupying the southern half of the Korean peninsula; established in 1948 after Korea's liberation from Japanese colonial rule. [e]
  • Tartu: Add brief definition or description
  • Stub Estonia: Baltic republic (population c. 1.3 million; capital Tallinn) bordered by Latvia to the south and the Russian Federation to the east; it includes more than 1500 islands, and its people are more closely related to the Finns than those of the other Baltic states, Latvia and Lithuania. [e]
  • Stub Canada: The world's second-largest country by total area, occupying most of northern North America; officially a bilingual nation, in English and French (population approx. 27 million). [e]
  • Developing Article Ontario: A province in eastern Canada, the second largest in area and with approximately 12,000,000 people (2006 census) the most populous. [e]
  • Stub Ottawa: Capital city of Canada, population 812,129. [e]
  • Montreal: Add brief definition or description
  • Developing Article Quebec: A province in eastern Canada, mostly French speaking and with a population of about 7 million. [e]
  • Cayman Islands: Add brief definition or description

In order to find articles dealing with similar topics, it's also worth looking at the Related Article subpages of such an article.

Furthermore, since you seem to be involved in homework assignments, please consider doing so via Eduzendium articles.

Finally, you can help future newcomers by giving your feedback on the above suggestions. To do so, please leave a note on my talk page.

Looking forward to fruitful collaborative editing, --Daniel Mietchen 22:31, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

Returning to Citizendium: an update on the project and how to get involved

Hello - some time ago you became part of the Citizendium project, but we haven't seen you around for a while. Perhaps you'd like to update your public biography or check on the progress of any pages you've edited so far.

Citizendium now has over 16,000 articles, with more than 150 approved by specialist Editors such as yourself, but our contributor numbers require a boost. We have an initiative called 'Eduzendium' that brings in students enrolled on university courses to write articles for credit, but we still need more Editors across the community to write, discuss and approve material. There are some developed Biology articles that could be improved and approved, and some high-priority articles that we don't have yet. You can also create new articles via this guide, and contribute to some Biology pages that have been recently edited - or to any others on Citizendium, since you're a general Author as well as a specialist Editor. You may like to contribute to discussions in the forums, and might consider running for an elected position on the Management and Editorial Councils that oversee the project.

If you have any questions, let me know via my Talk page or by leaving a message below this one. Thank you for signing up and reading this update; I hope that you will look in on our community soon. John Stephenson 13:45, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
