Hi Howard,
I *think* there was a discussion about this very item many months ago, maybe before you joined. I said that in French the initials that you read in the headlines are SDECE but that in the text of stories (in French!) it's Sdece (mostly, although not always.) Geez, what a can of worms! Hayford Peirce 03:13, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
- Do you see Dgse for the current organization? I suppose we can redirect the various capitalizations; I've never seen Sdece in an English-language intelligence document. Howard C. Berkowitz 03:16, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
- I'm sure you're right about English-language stuff, and this is an English-language encyl. It's like the French saying Otan and l'Onu.... Hayford Peirce 03:23, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
- Ah, but there are worms and worms. There is the Diet of Worms, and, from survival courses, a diet (at least partially) of worms.
Pronunciation
Thanks. I've always just spelled out the initials.
At least in the U.S. intelligence community, there is no particular euphemism, such as "The Company" for the CIA. Howard C. Berkowitz 21:01, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
