Sankhu is a Newari town, twelve kilometres east of Kathmandu, in Nepal.
The town, established in 1299 BCE, was the first urban centre in the Kathmandu valley, and used to be an important station on the trade route from the Kathmandu valley to Tibet. Today, the town is known mainly because of the famous Vajrayogini Temple, about two kilometres northeast of the town.
