Long Island is an island in New York State that extends 118 miles northeastward from the western shore of the East River. It contains four of New York's 62 counties: Kings County and Queens County, which are coterminous with New York City's Brooklyn and Queens boroughs, and Nassau County and Suffolk County, two suburban counties that colloquially share the "Long Island" label.
