Auvergne (French: Auvergne, Occitan: Auvèrnhe or Auvèrnha) is a historical region of southwestern Europe, politically in France and culturally in Occitania, comprising the northern and central parts of the Massif Central mountains and some adjacent lowlands. It constitutes an administrative region of France, whose capital is Clermont-Ferrand and which comprises the departments of Allier, Puy-de-Dôme, Cantal and Haute-Loire. It has 1 337 000 inhabitants in an area of 26 013 km².

The traditional, cultural region of Auvergne is a little smaller as it does not comprise Bourbonnais (i.e. the departement of Allier) nor Velay (i.e. the eastern part of the department of Haute-Loire).
