Caution

This article is seriously in need of better corroboration. Most of the information was gleaned from news reports and online webpages whose long-term value as sources is doubtful, but which nonetheless have a ring of truth about them. Readers should use this information with caution until better corroboration can be established. Even so, the information on hutongs which is coming out in bits and pieces in English because of the Olympic Games was worth capturing. Roger Lohmann 15:27, 27 July 2008 (CDT)

Title

I think it should be Hutong, Beijing because otherwise it looks like 'Hutong' is another name for Beijing. John Stephenson 08:03, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

Good point! Or, perhaps even remove the reference to Beijing from the title altogether, since it is referred to in the text. Now, if I can just figure out how to create a new page and forward this content!

Hi - either sounds fine to me. To move the page, click the 'move' link and make sure you tick the box to move any subpages too. However, the metadata template won't be moved... to do this, go to the metadata page before you move the main article. Edit it to change the name of the article under the two title fields 'pagename' and 'abc' (actually, 'abc' need not be modified in this case, as it already says 'Hutong'). Save. Things may start to come up in red from this point - but no panic. Now move the metadata page using the 'move' link. So, imagining you're going to call it Hutong...:
step 1 - edit Template:Hutong (Beijing)/Metadata to change the title (two fields).
step 2 - move Template:Hutong (Beijing)/Metadata -> Template:Hutong/Metadata
step 3 - move Hutong (Beijing) -> Hutong and check the boxes.

Page Moved

This page has been moved today from "Hutong (Beijing). Some additional attention by someone with more knowledge of China and Beijing would be appreciated. Roger Lohmann 14:53, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
