Talk:African American literature

I'm really glad this article is live because it is one of those WP articles truly in need of substantial revision. I've only had time to begin on this page, but one thing that needs to be done is to situate African American literary culture in the context of a broader, transnational literary culture (what Paul Gilroy has called the Black Atlantic). The article references, e.g., slave narratives by Carribean authors of African descent as though these are naturally part of an African American literary culture. It will take some substantial rewriting to make the changes I think are necessary here, and I will be making some of these changes over the next few days. Brian Sweeney 15:04, 29 October 2006 (CST)
