I released an intro to the WP version of this article (see contribution), which I have imported here.  —Stephen Ewen (Talk) 09:20, 3 September 2007 (CDT)

Wikipedia checkbox

It is rather odd to be crediting Wikipedia for an article about ourselves. I have been through the history log and I think what happened is that very early on, someone imported the Wikipedia version to replace an original stub. Larry reverted that but didn't clear the checkbox... and it stuck. For three years. I am going to clear it now; restore it if there really is Wikipedia material in there (which there really, really shouldn't be.) John Stephenson 14:56, 11 October 2010 (UTC)

Well, it's no better than the WP article on us! And similarly, it is completely out of date. I wonder, would it be better to delete it until someone write a proper original article? Martin Baldwin-Edwards 01:55, 12 October 2010 (UTC)
I wouldn't oppose outright deletion but neither would I wish to tackle a rewrite. I think it's interesting, by the way, that we have spent so little attention on an article about ourselves. We really do have better things to do... John Stephenson 13:41, 12 October 2010 (UTC)
Well, the very first thing I did (or almost, I forget which) when I joined CZ in May of '07 was to begin, and write, an article about Larry! There was nothing about him! Being a newbie, with lots of WP experience, I of course wrote in WP-style and Larry snipped and sniped at it, and me, for a while, but we quickly hacked it into reasonable shape. It too should be revisited and rewritten. Hayford Peirce 16:23, 12 October 2010 (UTC)

Update needed

A lot of this reflects the project's pre-Charter days. I have removed the 'family-friendly' section since that rule was established by the Statement of Fundamental Policies, which was superseded by the Charter. I have also added some Charter article to replace quotes from the SFP. John Stephenson 04:44, 21 February 2012 (UTC)

DEPOSIT ZONE for removed material, during revamping

I'm going to need to remove stuff, but I'll stick it in this bullet list blindly, for now, so I can find the text later to put it somewhere else later:

  • FROM Paragraph 1: The project reserves a role for recognized experts, who can approve articles as being of citable quality, but expertise is not required to join."

Rewrite this Page?

Obviously, the Citizendium project going forward will require some serious (and immediate) revisions to this page. Yet, there is a lot of good, very interesting history of the CZ project contained on this page and I would hate to see it lost. One possibility would be to restyle much of what is currently on this page as a "history of the CZ project", either as part of a revised (and extended) version of this page, or as a linked "Citizendium (History)" page. Since it isn't clear what direction this page must take, I've started the task on "historicizing" what is currently there on my Sandbox page here: [1] Feedback welcome. Roger A.
