Workgroups, or lack thereof

In the introduction to the 1998 edition, Stefan Collini says that the is are "continuous with the kinds of topics which are habitually considered by philosophers, historians and sociologists'; how far they should be also be considered part of the primary professional activity of physicists, chemists and biologists has precisely been one of the matters at stake in the subsequent debate."

I am hesitant, therefore, to assign it to any one of those workgroups, especially one or more that might consider itself first among equals in defining the terms of the debate. Daring to move to a culture that is not mine, for example, I observe that philosophers may describe this sort of debate as a dialectic, a term that would occur to few scientists or engineers as describing discourse.

If I were to pick a workgroup, it might well be Library and Information Sciences, who arguably are the experts in finding common structures that work for all participants. Howard C. Berkowitz 03:01, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
