Welcome to the Citizendium! We hope you will contribute boldly and well. You'll probably want to know how to get started as an author. Just look at CZ:Getting Started for other helpful "startup" links, and CZ:Home for the top menu of community pages. Be sure to stay abreast of events via the Citizendium-L (broadcast) mailing list (do join!) and the blog. Please also join the workgroup mailing list(s) that concern your particular interests. You can test out editing in the sandbox if you'd like. If you need help to get going, the forums is one option. That's also where we discuss policy and proposals. You can ask any constable for help, too. Me, for instance! Just put a note on their "talk" page. Again, welcome and have fun! Matt Innis (Talk) 19:36, 14 November 2007 (CST)
Internationalisation
Hi! I’m just letting people who have expressed an interest in CZ International know that there is now a proposal on the table.
Please discuss its feasibility at: CZ:Proposals/Internationalisation sandbox in the Discussion area.
Feel free to help develop the proposal, as well.
We'll also need "drivers".
If you've got no idea what I'm talking about, please refer to: CZ:Proposals/New and CZ:Proposals

Editorship
Domergue, with your background I'm sure you'd qualify as an editor - and we need them in the Linguistics Workgroup! Of course, you can't approve anything you've substantially contributed to, so if you did want to be an editor, you would have to confine your contributions to Talk page comments for any articles you wanted to grant future approval. John Stephenson 15:34, 18 August 2008 (CDT)
- Thank you very much for your kind proposal. I will think about it.--Domergue Sumien 16:56, 19 August 2008 (CDT)
- OK. I would like to ask you for any guidance/advice/comments about the Romansh language article. If you were an editor and didn't contribute it to yourself, this could eventually become an approved article! John Stephenson 17:58, 27 August 2008 (CDT)
- I'll read it soon entirely. I'm afraid I can't get involved yet as an editor because I've got too much backlog.--Domergue Sumien 18:04, 27 August 2008 (CDT)
- Great - of course, as an editor you're not obligated to do anything at all. John Stephenson 18:09, 27 August 2008 (CDT)

Romance language articles
Hi Domergue, thanks for these Romance language articles. They look very good to me! --Larry Sanger 20:31, 27 August 2008 (CDT)
- Thank you Larry, I'm delighted to receive your encouragement.--Domergue Sumien 05:36, 28 August 2008 (CDT)
- And nice job on all the redirects. Chris Day 13:12, 10 October 2008 (CDT)
- Thank you :-)--Domergue Sumien 16:09, 10 October 2008 (CDT)
- No problem about Romansh - no time limit! By the way, I think you are over-modest about your contributions here. John Stephenson 04:02, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for the note, answer on my talk page - Ro Thorpe 13:51, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
South Korea
Thank you for editing South Korea! I added & deleted some, so could you take a look at the article? (Chunbum Park 17:48, 5 November 2008 (UTC))
- You're welcome! Thank you for your adds. The article is now more complete. I think that "Korea" is clearer and much more common than "Korean Peninsula". In the revised romanization of Korean, the hyphen seems unnecessary: Namhan and Daehan Minguk are simpler, lighter and more common than Nam-han and Dae-han Min-guk. The abbreviation ROK for Republic of Korea is often used and should remain in the introduction. --Domergue Sumien 15:21, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
- I was afraid that someone would read daehan minguk as "dae ...ming" uk or "..ming guk" when it's really "min guk," but I guess you're right about how it looks messy. I made the changes that you suggested. You're right about Korea > Korean peninsula. What I like about Citizendium is that its articles are readable & concise. (Chunbum Park 15:55, 6 November 2008 (UTC))
- Thanks. I can see that you improve more and more the article. It's fine!--Domergue Sumien 21:35, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

CZ en français
Bonjour, savez-vous où en est le projet de création de CZ en français ? Cordialement. Thierry Henri Cauchois 18:47, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
moved Catalan discussion
Hi Domergue, I moved the discussion from my page to the Talk page of Catalan countries. I'll let you and Rheaux fight it out, hehe. If it's finally decided that it's Countries after all, I'll Move it back. Best, Hayford Peirce 20:44, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Heureux de te revoir! --Daniel Mietchen 04:23, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
- Merci, très aimable! :-)--Domergue Sumien 21:53, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
Athens
A suggestion on the Talk page there, to create another article on Ancient Athens. This is because the content is now mostly about ancient history -- and there is a lot for this place! See if you agree. Martin Baldwin-Edwards 14:15, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
Spanish language
Hi. As Spanish language is such an important subject I decided to remove all of the Wikipedia material. I have, however, saved the edits you made (see Talk:Spanish language). You are welcome to write the article any way you wish. John Stephenson 10:07, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you John. :)--Domergue Sumien 18:02, 28 September 2010 (UTC)
- No problem! John Stephenson 04:39, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
Latin alphabet
Ro and I discussed moving this to Roman alphabet some time ago. My worry is that, technically, the 'Latin alphabet' is the alphabet used to write Latin, rather than the general-purpose alphabet used for many languages. What do you think? John Stephenson 04:39, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
- OK. Please see my response here.--Domergue Sumien 19:05, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
You've been Nominated!
Someone has nominated you for a position in the new Citizendium. They have noticed you're dedication to the project and like what they see. To be listed on the ballot for the position, it is necessary that you accept the nomination on the [[CZ:Nomination page|Nomination page]. Just place accept next to your name along with the four tildes. The nomination period will close at midnight October 7 (UTC). Article 54 of the new charter details the requirements:
Article 54
- In conjunction with the Declaration of the Editor-in-Chief regarding the effectivity of this Charter, there shall be a call for nominations for the following offices: Managament Council (five seats), Editorial Council (seven seats), Managing Editor (one), Ombudsman (one). This shall be the effective date of the Charter.
- Any Citizen may nominate candidates for these positions.
- Nominations shall be collected and collated by the Chief Constable.
- Nominations shall be accepted no more than fourteen days after the effective date of the charter; the ballot shall be available starting on the twentieth day after the effective date of the charter; the election shall be completed no more than twenty-eight days after the effective date of the charter; all elected officials shall begin their term of office on the thirtieth day after the effective date of the charter.
- Only candidates who accept their nomination shall be eligible to appear on the ballot. Nominated candidates can accept nominations for no more than two official functions. Accepting a nomination serves as a declaration of commitment, in the case of being elected, to fulfill this function until the limit of the term.
- All positions shall be elected by a simple majority of the voting citizenry. In the case of a tie, an immediate run-off election shall be held.
- In the event that a candidate has been elected for two functions, the candidate shall declare which one he or she accepts within three days of announcement of the election results. In the event that such a declaration has not been made during this period, the candidate shall be considered elected for the position for which the nomination was accepted first. The same procedure applies to a reserve member that becomes elected by a seat being vacated this way.
If you would like to make a statement to help voters, click the "Statement" link to the right of your name.
Thanks again for the commitment you're making to assure that Citizendium becomes the premier quality online source we all have envisioned.

South Sudan from a linguistic standpoint
Could you suggest a better term than non-Arabic for the language families of South Sudan? Some sources use Nilotic, but that's not the only group. Howard C. Berkowitz 01:19, 25 December 2010 (UTC)
- Those languages belong to several families: Nilo-Saharan languages, Kordofanian languages and Niger-Congo languages (the two latter are loosely related).--Domergue Sumien 19:01, 25 December 2010 (UTC)
- Here's my specific problem, to which there may be no elegant solution. The North triggered much resentment and open war by trying to force both Islam and the Arabic language on the South. "Islamicization", as a term, isn't unique to Sudan, but "Arabicization" problem is. I suppose, since there's no single southern religion, there really is no better way to phrase that part of the conflict is forced imposition of Arabic language and Islamic religion on indigenous languages and beliefs. Howard C. Berkowitz 20:48, 25 December 2010 (UTC)
- I agree. From a linguistic point of view, I can simply say that the languages of Sudan are numerous and belong to a lot of different families and subfamilies. Arabicization in Sudan is a serious threat against language and cultural diversity.--Domergue Sumien 10:57, 26 December 2010 (UTC)

Romansh language
Now I'm back I'll get round to looking over this article again, though unfortunately I'm off-line again from now for a few days. Thanks. John Stephenson 18:20, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
- Good news! I'm glad to see you again on CZ!--Domergue Sumien 10:57, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
About Spanish language
I noticed that the Spanish language article has a "See also" section. Citizendium does not use a "See also" section in any articles. Instead, the "Related Articles" subpage is used to list wiki links to any pertinent, related Citizendium articles. In other words, the internal wiki links now listed in the Spanish language article should be deleted and moved to the "Related Articles" subpage. Just thought you should be made aware of that.
