A definition or brief description of Disseminated intravascular coagulation.

An abnormal activation of the systemic blood coagulation system, always with a separate underlying cause(s), which first causes the production of widespread small clots that interfere with oxygen delivery and may lead to multiorgan failure, and then, due to exhaustion of the precursors of coagulation, result in seemingly converse widespread diffuse bleeding.
