We actually went through a major debate on this matter over at Wikipedia. The debate was very long lasting and intense with both sides: the "scientific name" group vs. the "common name" group, everyone stuck to their guns and nobody would budge. I was on the "scientific name" group side, but we "lost" the debate and grudgingly went on to name the articles under their common English vernacular names. However, overtime I have come to like this idea - it's not so bad at all. This should live at the common name, i.e. black mamba should not redirect to d.p. Not anxious to have this debate again, but using common names was the majority decision.
What I don't know is whether or not the article should live at Black Mamba, Black mamba, etc. etc.
Opinions? I don't want to remove the redirects until we're sure where it's going.

- Hey, I moved the article to "Black mamba", I don't think we should capitalize the word "mamba". When I begin writing the cobra articles, I am going to name them similarly ie. Naja naja will be "Indian cobra" or "Spectacled cobra". The words "mamba" and "cobra" are generic terms that shouldn't be capitalized, in my opinion. Francis Zaia 20:23, 8 May 2012 (UTC)
- You're probably right. Seems clear that 'cobra' is a generic name. We went through the wringer on - mourning dove I think it was. If I recall, it shouldn't be capitalised, so I think you're spot on. Aleta Curry 04:45, 9 May 2012 (UTC)
