This page contains standards and regulations related to Debate Guide subpages.

What is a Debate Guide?

A Debate Guide is one of the optional subpages of an article's cluster. It sets out and if necessary explores opposing arguments in a subject cluster or any subtopics in the cluster. It may outline any difficulties in defining a topic or the scope of a topic. Debate Guides will most often be used for controversies, but they can be helpful in clearing up non-controversial ambiguity as well.

The length and complexity of a Debate Guide will depend on the subject. There may be only one page, or a listing of several pages, related pages or sub-subpages.

Purpose

The purpose of a CZ Debate Guide is to provide supplemental information to a cluster article, without disrupting the flow of the article. The body of articles should not attempt to list, spell out or explain all the aspects of controversies surrounding the topic or any subtopic, nor should there be exhaustive lists of opposing points of view and their proponents; these are handled in "Debate Guides".

Heading and format standards

Guidelines for editing

A Debate Guide is not a default subpages. That means that the Debate Guide tab does not automatically appear on a topic's cluster when the Metadata Page is set up.

In order to begin a Debate Guide, the writer must click on the Talk tab of the cluster and then select Show unused subpages by clicking on the link to the right. S/he can then select "Debate Guide"; this will open an editing window, which when saved will add the Debate Guide tab to the cluster.
