Vipera echis is a scientific name proposed by Schlegel in 1837. It was used to describe a venomous viper found in the deserts of North Africa, the Middle East and the Indian Subcontinent. However, this name has long since been considered a synonym of the following two species:[1]
- Echis carinatus - (Schneider, 1801) - Indian saw-scaled viper.
- Echis pyramidum - (Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire, 1827) - Northeast African saw-scaled viper.
