Tom - I am delighted that you looked in on my start of [[Worldview]], as I know the subject interests you and that you’ve written about it elsewhere. Tom – I am less delighted that you substituted my blockquote style, which shows the text non-italicized, with CZ’s standard blockquote style, which shows the text italicized. Respond to Tom Morris re blockquote style
Tom - I am delighted that you looked in on my start of Worldview, as I know the subject interests you and that you’ve written about it elsewhere. I hope you will join in developing the article, or if circumstances don’t permit, let me know of any important references you think should be incorporated. You could put them here on the Talk page or Bibliography page.
Tom – I am less delighted that you substituted my blockquote style, which shows the text non-italicized, with CZ’s standard blockquote style, which shows the text italicized. Italicizng blockquotes is non-conventional. I have never seen blockquotes italicized in my 70+ decades of reading books, as far as I can recall. All the respected style guides that discuss blockquotes do not mention italicizing the text, and all their examples show the text non-italicized.
Fortunately, or unfortunately, I am one of those authors who considers the appearance of the page complementary to its content. I find italicized blockquote text more difficult to read, and unpleasing to the eye. Perhaps others have felt the same, accounting for the convention of using non-italicized text. Incidentally, Larry Sanger is on record that CZ’s blockquote method is incorrect.
Accordingly, I plan to continue to use the blockquote style I have devised and used regularly in dozens of article. Perhaps someday the Editorial Council will weigh in on this issue. I hope my decision will not cause you any discomfort. Anthony.Sebastian 15:36, 11 May 2011 (CDT)
