James Chang is 15 years old and is a sophomore in the [[IB Program]] at [[Stanton College Preparatory School]].  James began his [[piano]] studies at the age of four and [[violin]] studies at the age of seven.  At the age of eight, Chang performed [[Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart]]'s Concerto No. 19 (1st mvt.) and received a standing ovation.  He made his solo debut at the age of 10 performing an hour-long classical program in front of an audience of 300.  He was also selected as one of nine finalists in the 11th Annual [[World Piano Pedagogy Conference]] in [[Atlanta]], 2006.  His most recent awards include winning 1st place in the piano division of the 2007 [[Bach Festival Young Artists Competition]] at [[Rollins College]] and 2nd place overall.  He and Kong Shi have also been selected to perform with the [[Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra]] in March as a duo team.  He has won district and state awards in solo and concerto divisions of the [[National Federation of Music Clubs]].  Other awards included 1st place in both piano solo and piano concerto in the 2006 Greater Jacksonville Piano Competition.  Currently, he is studying Fantasia by [[Benjamin Lees]], Ondine (the first piece from [[Gaspard de la Nuit]]: Trois Poèmes pour Piano d'apres [[Aloysius Bertrand]]) by [[Maurice Ravel]], Ballade No. 4 by [[Frédéric Chopin]], and Concerto No. 2 in F Minor, 1st mvt. also by Frédéric Chopin.  In addition to learning piano, he is also an advanced violinist and is currently learning [[Felix Mendelssohn]]'s Violin Concerto in E Minor, 1st mvt.  James is studying piano with Myrtle Edwards and Peggy Fleming, while studying violin with former semi-finalist of the [[Paganini International Violin Competition]], Aaron Krosnick.  He is also a violinist in the Philharmonic Orchestra of the [[Jacksonville Symphony Youth Orchestra]] ([http://www.jaxsymphony.org/jsyo]).
