The 53rd Presidential election in U.S. history, the '''2000 United States presidential election''' was a close contest between the winning [[George W. Bush]] ([[Republican Party (United States)]]) and [[Al Gore]] ([[Democratic Party (United States)]]). While [[Patrick Buchanan]] ([[U.S. Reform Party]]) and [[Ralph Nader]] ([[U.S. Green Party]]) were not serious competitors, it was generally accepted they took votes away from Gore. Gore did win the popular vote while Bush won the [[Electoral College]].
