Aki Vainio is a lecturer at the University of Vaasa, Finland, giving lectures in a variety of subjects within the field of computing, including programming, operating systems, information security, database systems, computer graphics and in the past in compiler technology.

Aki is also a co-founder of Necora Systems Ltd, a small software company mainly working on information systems for private child care organizations and small projects. Through his company, Aki has strong interest in open source software and community.

Aki has MSc in Technology with a major in software engineering and a minor in philosophy from University of Vaasa. His master's thesis focused on using machine learning to form a system which could help students in Finland to plan their studies better. On his little free time remaining, he is also working on litentiate's and doctor's thesis on adversarial reasoning used in forming alliances. He also has papers published on knowledge management and agent systems.

In the past Aki has worked in a few software projects, at MacDonalds, and as a janitor. He was also very active in student affairs during his years at the university and wrote a book just for the fun of it. He is planning on doing it again if he ever has the time.

Aki is native Finn, which means his mother's tongue is Finnish. He also knows very good English, a smattering of Swedish and used to know some Latin, but has forgotten it over the years.
