::::I think the first sentence in the State of Israel article clearly states how the two are different.  "The State of Israel is the modern government of a geographic area of Biblical origins, Israel."  The "State of Israel" article should cover the modern nation.  "Israel" should cover the Biblical entity.  "Palestine" should cover the area from 1919-1948 (or Mandate of Palestine, I'm not a fan of "Mandatory Palestine" as "mandatory" is an adverb).  I'm not sure what the area was called during the Ottoman rule or during Byzantium, but we could also have articles dealing with those regions of those empires.  Then, of course, as John suggests, we could have a geographical article.  ... Ori, I'd like to say that I support you in your decision to revert to your shorter article. Obviously, it needs expansion. But the Wikipedia article seemed to be typically substandard Wikipedia work, and we on CZ should support those of us who wish to start over. --Larry Sanger 23:32, 30 March 2007 (CDT)

6 Day War

I believe we should have a section detailing Isreal defense and how it's current borders were determined by this action. Would this be an acceptible source?http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/History/1967toc.html.Richard Leeds 14:18, 8 April 2007 (CDT)

Capital

A controversy that I don't feel I know enough about to edit over: are we right to say that Jerusalem is the capital without qualification? We should clarify the status of both Jerusalem and Tel Aviv under Israeli and international law. John Stephenson 04:29, 21 May 2007 (CDT)

Israel has had Jerusalem as it's capital for a long time and it still is, even though the American embasy is in Tel Aviv, and by the way Bush or our next president should be moving it over to Jerusalem soon. Jordan Goldberg 12:51, 11 June 2007 (CDT)

There's no controversy on the point of its being a capital. Some embasies are located in Tel Aviv either out of convenience or the wish to avoid giving official stamp to the inclusion of eastern Jerusalem as part of the city, but Jerusalem was the one and only capital even before this became an issue (after the six days war). Information

I think that the fight in Israel between the Arabs and the Jews should be included, because that is a big part of how so many people know about Israel. Jordan Goldberg 10:33, 10 June 2007 (CDT)

Israel and State of Israel

Do we really need both? ...said {} (talk) (Please sign your talk page posts by simply adding four tildes, ~~~~.)

I think so. We don't need United States and United States Government only because there are no appreciable boundary disputes; we still need articles on Administrations. There is a substantial discussion of the political geography of the historic, 1948, post-1967, and continuing Greater Israel discussion. The State of Israel clearly deals with the modern aspects; there will be additional need for articles on, say, Rubin and Netanyahu governments. Yet another dimension is the assumption that Israel is, or is not "the" Jewish state, or a state with a Jewish identity. Howard C. Berkowitz 18:33, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
I disagree, Howard. I think this article (Israel) should be deleted after extracting any useful content and working any such content into the State of Israel article. As I read this article it contains very little content that is not in the much larger State of Israel article. In fact, the first sentence of this article starts off as: The State of Israel ... . Milton Beychok 04:13, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
I think there should be separate articles covering the history of the region, name, etc., but there is no real need for two articles which overlap considerably. I suggest moving any material that is not covered at Israel over to that article. John Stephenson 17:29, 27 September 2013 (UTC)
I think the first sentence in the State of Israel article clearly states how the two are different. Then, of course, as John suggests, we could have a geographical article. ... Russell D. Jones 20:46, 27 September 2013 (UTC)

Projectiles Fired Toward Israel by Year (2002- 2009)

Dunno in which article this chart might fit best but just found it here. --Daniel Mietchen 14:15, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

Hmmm...Israeli Defense Forces, maybe. That's the best current place, I think, for military issues that do not tie to a specific major event. Alternatively, Israel-Palestine Conflict. Howard C. Berkowitz 14:39, 11 July 2010 (UTC)
Thinking a little further, it may be an idea to start a specific article on cross-border firing into Israel, which would allow discussion of both defensive technology and appropriate political context (e.g., factional fighting and inability of a government to suppress firing). It also doesn't limit it strictly to Palestinian sites, which handles Hezbollah in Lebanon. Howard C. Berkowitz 14:42, 11 July 2010 (UTC)
