Inevitable, that results in getting two competing pages for the same thing.  We seem to have two version of this page, and people seem to be editing both.  One page URL has parentheses, and one doesn't.  I think we should keep THIS one and ditch the one with parentheses, but I can't tell which is most current.  Hence, I am archiving all the content of the parentheses version at Linux_distribution/ParenthesesVersion and will then mark the original for speedy deletion.Pat Palmer 09:57, 9 April 2007 (CDT)

Just to be clear on this: Its' OK to create articles with spaces in the title. An article with a space in the title is automatically converted to an underscore. So Linux_kernel and Linux kernel are the same article. Creating two competing articles with/without parentheses is as Pat described, however. --Eric M Gearhart 10:09, 9 April 2007 (CDT)

Is this from WP? If so, please so mark it --Larry Sanger 16:04, 5 April 2007 (CDT)

Argh it looks like the original editor's account (Anees Ahmed) isn't even here anymore. I'll mark it WP for now, and modify it in the future so that it's got "Live" status Eric M Gearhart 06:53, 6 April 2007 (CDT)

Gridter

I visited http://www.gridter.com/linx/linux.html and noticed that the page equates Solaris with Linux, which is absurd. The grid also includes BSD distributions. Is CZ tarnished by linking to such blatant disinformation? Would some sort of disclaimer be appropriate? <>< Tim Chambers 12:33, 7 April 2007 (CDT)

Yes you're right... from viewing the source of that page there are two links to distributions that aren't Linux at all. One link is to http://www.sun.com/software/solaris which of course isn't linux, the other is to "NexentaOS" , a "complete GNU-based open source operating system built on top of the [WWW] OpenSolaris kernel and runtime."

This page was largely imported from Wikipedia, so of course it needs a lot of work, and maybe some parts removed/rewritten. It looks like that "list of distributions" is just trying to bloat itself up over being accurate.

As I said this article needs work. Be bold and dive in! Eric M Gearhart 12:53, 7 April 2007 (CDT)
