Located on the coast of Central Vietnam, the capital of Khanh Hoa Province is Nha Trang. Phu Yen Province is the northern border. On the west, it borders on Dac Lac and Lam Dong provinces, and Ninh Thuan Province is to the south.

It is on the main north-south National Highway 1, and National Highway 26 connects it to the Central Highlands

As part of South Vietnam, it was in II Corps tactical zone

Nha Trang

The capital is

  • 1,450 km south of Hanoi
  • 450 km northeast of Saigon/Ho Chi Minh City

When part of South Vietnam, it was the headquarters of two major commands, Army of the Republic of Viet Nam (ARVN) II Corps tactical zone and U.S. I Field Force Vietnam. U.S. 5th Special Forces Group, and its counterpart, the Lac Luong Dac Biet (LLDB) were also based in Nha Trang.

Cam Ranh Bay

This was a major port and logistical center in South Vietnam.

After the Socialist Republic of Vietnam was formed, the Soviet Union operated a large signals intelligence facility here, which was shut down in 2001. Russia still uses the port for servicing warships.
