Yours truly in 2007.
Me in 1999.

Hi! My name is Andrea James.

I am a writer, director, producer, and activist based in Los Angeles.

I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with majors in English and Latin/Classical Greek from Wabash College. I have an Master of Arts in English from the University of Chicago, where I specialized in 18th-century British diaries and satire.

After graduate school, I wrote ads for ten years at top Chicago ad agencies.

I am known for my work on behalf of transgender and transsexual people. I authored tsroadmap.com, a how-to guide for transgender people, and hairfacts.com, a general market guide to hair removal.

In 2003, I co-founded Deep Stealth Productions with Calpernia Addams, creating numerous instructional videos. Our first all-transgender performance of The Vagina Monologues was featured in the documentary Beautiful Daughters. I consulted with Felicity Huffman and am the opening shot of the 2005 film Transamerica. I was a consulting producer and on-camera personality in the competitive dating show Transamerican Love Story. I also directed the short films "Casting Pearls" in 2007 and "Transproofed" in 2009.

I serve on the Boards of Directors for Outfest, TransYouth Family Allies, and GenderMedia Foundation.

I edit on most other wiki projects as Jokestress, in order to minimize reader confusion between my editing account and wiki articles about me. To that end, I want to point out that this is not a Citizendium article.
