Polo is a team sport played on horseback by teams of three or four with the object of scoring goals. Each rider uses a long-handled wooden mallet to strike the ball. Polo is believed to have originated in Persia (now Iran) sometime after 600 BCE. The world governing body is the Federation of International Polo (FIP), which has over 100 member countries.
