Sharif Hussein bin Ali (1853-1931), Emir of Mecca, was the last of the Hashemite rulers of Mecca, Medina and the Hijaz in unbroken succession from 1201 to 1925. His sons actually led armies, and, among them, Emir Feisal was to be the leader of the Arab forces in Mesopotamia (i.e., the predecessor of modern Iraq), while Emir Abdullah fought in Jordan and is the ancestor of the current monarch.

Arab Revolt

He is best known for declaring the Arab Revolt in June 1916 against the Ottoman army, with a formal proclamation. [1]
