In medicine, peripheral arterial disease (peripheral artery disease; PAD) is a form of arterial occlusive disease in the arteries of the lower extremities usually due atherosclerosis.
Diagnosis
Physical examination
On physical examination, the ankle brachial index (ABI) can be estimated by palpating the distal pulse. When compared to measurement by Doppler ultrasonography, the accuracy for detecting an ABI < 0.9 is:[1]

- specificity = 82%
