An inhibitor of tetrahydrofolate dehydrogenase, which prevents the formation of tetrahydrofolate, necessary for synthesis of thymidylate, an essential component of DNA. Wide range of applications, including the treatment of cancer; autoimmune diseases (where it is considered a disease-modifying antirheumatic drug) including asthma, psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis.
