I was born in Indonesia, but spent my adolescent years partly in Indonesia and partly in Australia. I received the PhD degree in engineering and information science from the Australian National University, Australia, in 2007, the M.Sc degree in engineering mathematics from the University of Twente, The Netherlands, in 2002, and the bachelor degree in electrical engineering from Institut Teknologi Bandung, Indonesia, in 1999. I am the second member of my immediate family to be granted the PhD degree (my Dad was the first with a PhD in Chemistry from the University of New South Wales, Australia).
My research interests include modeling and control of quantum and classical stochastic dynamical systems, degree constrained rational interpolation and its engineering applications, and statistical signal processing. I have published a number of papers in peer reviewed and reputable control engineering journals (such as IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, Systems and Control Letters, and SIAM Journal on Control and Optimization) and conferences (such as the annual IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (CDC)).
On the recreational side, I enjoy doing sports (mainly swimming, soccer, tennis and skiing), playing PlayStation games (which I never seem to have time to complete!), reading John Grisham novels, cooking and, of course, contributing to Citizendium.
