Welcome to the Citizendium! We hope you will contribute boldly and well. Here are pointers for a quick start, and see Getting Started for other helpful "startup" links, our help system and CZ:Home for the top menu of community pages. You can test out editing in the sandbox if you'd like. If you need help to get going, the forum is one option. That's also where we discuss policy and proposals. You can ask any user or the editors for help, too. Just put a note on their "talk" page. Again, welcome and have fun!

Hello
Nice to have you on board. Please consider adding your name as an "author" in the area of your expertise. See Robert's links above. Also, make sure we get the articles "tagged" correctly with workgroup and cz live categories. -Tom Kelly (Talk) 12:59, 15 February 2007 (CST)
nice to be here
Tom - nice to be writing for CZ. I'm still learning how to drive around and what the tags mean and how to get date/time stamps and categories placed correctly. How are things at USC? -Barney
- I love USC and will be hitting up the library shortly. It's better to write on my talk page with your replies and copy the conversation to your talk page if you feel that it is important. Or you can go to my talk page and email me - first, go to my user page by clicking on my name (linked in my signature). then, on the left side in the "tool box" section it says "email this user." It won't show you my email address but it allows you to contact me directly if you would like. When you edit someone else's talk page they usually get an email notification and will sign on to check it out. The reason that I am pushing for categories to get placed in articles (look at bottom of articles and you'll see hyperlinks for specific categories is for a function called "related changes." It's hard to explain now, but start by looking at the "recent changes" link in the "project page" box on the left side. This lists all of the recent changes and activity on CZ (citizendium). Related changes will allow us to monitor what changes have happened in "biology workgroup" articles and "health sciences" workgroup articles if we get all of our articles tagged with those 2 categories. Feel free to contact me with any questions. I think the best way to learn is just go start fiddling and participating. You'll learn as you go at your own pace. Have fun! I'm off to the library. Looks like you are in to hematology, do you know Dr. Levine? -Tom Kelly (Talk) 13:36, 15 February 2007 (CST)
- whenever you see a formating thing that interests you, just check out the "edit" tab to see how it is done. Also, don't hesitate to ask some of the old pros on how to do things. I'm just starting out as well with the wiki editing stuff. The 5 formating techniques I use most often are double = and triple === surrounding a word to get the bold underline with edit section and just the bold with edit section. I also use :'s a lot in conversations for talk sections. -Tom Kelly (Talk) 13:41, 15 February 2007 (CST)

John, please you have to include the copyright information in the images that you upload. Thanks. --Versuri 07:28, 16 February 2007 (CST)
- Rilson, thanks for the reminder here. The red blood cell image is from the NIH and I tried to add some info to its page to reflect its status as a public domain work of the US Government. Maybe there is an easier way to do this attribution step? -Barney (John B.) 16 Feb 2007 9:57 PST
Please join us for Biology Week!
Hello John, I am giving you this personal invitation to join us this week for Biology Week! You're a Citizendium Biology Author and we need authors as much as editors here to get involved. Did you know that there are over 200 biology authors here? Yep! Please join us on the wiki and add or revise biology articles. Also, please let your friends and colleagues who are biologists, biology students, or naturalists, know about Biology Week and ask them to join us, too. Any way you can help make it an event would be most welcome. Think of it as a Biology Workgroup open house. Let's see if we can kick up activity a notch! Thanks in advance! --Larry Sanger 14:54, 22 September 2008 (CDT) |
