In Germany under the Weimar Republic (1919-1934), the Minister of Defense was the top official of the treaty-limited military forces of the Reichswehr. Under Adolf Hitler, the position was changed to Minister of War, and the last Minister of Defense, Werner von Blomberg, assumed the position. Hitler forced Blomberg from office, and took over the supreme command personally until the end of the Third Reich.
