Vernor Vinge

Vernor Vinge (1945-2024) was a science-fiction writer, computer scientist and mathematician. As a sci-fi author, Vinge won Hugo Awards for the novels A Fire Upon the Deep (1993), A Deepness in the Sky (2000), and Rainbows End (2007). He also won Hugos for novellas "Fast Times at Fairmont High" (2002) and "The Cookie Monster" (2004).

Vinge was also a professor of computer science at San Diego State University from 1972 until 2000. His first short story, Apartness, was published in 1965 by British magazine New Worlds.
