Welcome!
Welcome to the Citizendium! We hope you will contribute boldly and well. You'll probably want to know how to get started as an author. Just look at CZ:Getting Started for other helpful "startup" links, and CZ:Home for the top menu of community pages. Be sure to stay abreast of events via the Citizendium-L (broadcast) mailing list (do join!) and the blog. Please also join the workgroup mailing list(s) that concern your particular interests. You can test out editing in the sandbox if you'd like. If you need help to get going, the forums is one option. That's also where we discuss policy and proposals. You can ask any constable for help, too. Me, for instance! Just put a note on their "talk" page. Again, welcome and have fun! Dan Nachbar 14:07, 17 November 2007 (CST)
Welcome and thanks
I'm just spending some time this morning thanking the newer/returned people who did weekend wiki work. So, thanks, nice to have you here! --Larry Sanger 08:17, 19 November 2007 (CST)
Welcome Back!
Welcome back! two items:
- can we make you an editor? CZ policy requires three editors approve history articles and the others have vanished on us so we need your help.
- how can we link CZ with the EMU History Wiki ?? have you seen our Eduzendium project? see http://en.citizendium.org/wiki/CZ:Citizendium_Press_Releases/Jan242008
We'd love to have your students write CZ articles. Richard Jensen 16:18, 18 February 2008 (CST)
- My fear is that I'd be just another absentee editor. I'm not here enough to be doing an editor's job. How dire is the situation? Are you the only historian/editor? Russell D. Jones 20:55, 18 February 2008 (CST)
- in practice, yes...alas. (N=15 nominally) dire. But the excitement is to get students to work. I'm retired but next week will be talking to a VPAA about my teaching a historiography course in which the kids write CZ articles. Richard Jensen 23:00, 18 February 2008 (CST)
- I don't mean to eavesdrop exactly, but Richard, the latter is great news! I hope you can swing it. --Larry Sanger 23:06, 18 February 2008 (CST)
- Sure, I'll apply.
- Hey great! we'll try not to seize your weekends and summer vacations. :) Richard Jensen 20:31, 19 February 2008 (CST)
- Yes, great, nice to have you on board, Russell! --Larry Sanger 22:00, 19 February 2008 (CST)

Welcome, new editor! We're very glad you've joined us. Here are pointers for a quick start. Also, when you get a chance, please read The Editor Role. You can look at Getting Started and our help system for other introductory pages. It is also important, for project-wide matters, to join the Citizendium-L (broadcast) mailing list. Announcements are also available via Twitter. You can test out editing in the sandbox if you'd like. If you need help to get going, the forum is one option. That's also where we discuss policy and proposals. You can ask any administrator for help, too. Just put a note on their "talk" page. Again, welcome and thank you! We appreciate your willingness to share your expertise, and we hope to see your edits on Recent changes soon. --Larry Sanger 21:45, 19 February 2008 (CST)
You made my day
I needed a good chuckle! Thanks for that! Lord knows I've been there and got the T-shirt! D. Matt Innis 00:29, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- Happy to please. :) BTW, I had sauteed snowpeas with julianned onion and pepper and two varieties of broccoli over pasta. I feel much better now. --Russell D. Jones 01:04, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
Approval nomination for Grand Trunk Railway
Russell, I responded at Talk:Grand Trunk Railway to your request that I look at the subject article. Regards, Milton Beychok 22:17, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
Charter drafting candidacy
Hi Russell,
Thanks for accepting your nomination to be a candidate for election to the drafting committee for the Citizendium charter.
If you'd like, there is a provision in the plan that provides a place for you to compose a position statement. You are not required to do this in order to be a candidate for election to the committee, but it would be helpful to others during the voting period. Even if you don't compose a statement before the election period concludes, should you be elected it might be helpful for other members of the committee to know what you feel are the most important issues to address with the draft. You can find a red link to the page where you can write your statement here, along with instructions for doing so.
If you have any questions, just let me know. --Joe Quick 15:26, 17 September 2009 (UTC)
History of geniuses
Hi Russell, just stumbled upon this and thought it may be of interest to you. --Daniel Mietchen 21:16, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
- Heh! In my case, I've never considered it a problem! Russell D. Jones 21:19, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
Re consideration of nominating article for approval
Russell, when convenient, will you take a look at the article, The Fourth Great Awakening and the Future of Egalitarianism, in consideration of its merit for nomination for approval.
The article title is the title of a year-2000 book by Nobelist economist, Robert William Fogel, and the article itself is essentially a synopsis of Fogel's thesis.
I started the article and did most of development. It was considered for approval a few years ago, but Larry wanted an editable table instead of the image-table I used, taken from the publisher's website. I've finally gotten around to wikifying the table, and I think it does look better—the image-table can be seen in article history.
For reasons you'll see if you look at the article, I will also make this request of an Economics Editor and a Religion Editor.
If it looks okay to you, all you have to do is edit the article's metadata page (here), put 4 tildes next to one of the ToApprove Editor items, save page. You'd then be one nominator, and other Editors, including yourself, then could remove the nomination banner if discussion subsequently finds that it does not merit approval. Please review Los Alamos National Laboratory for spelling, grammar, and whatever
Russell, I would very much appreciate it if you would review Los Alamos National Laboratory for spelling, grammar, and whatever else you think may be needed. Thanks, Milton Beychok 19:06, 6 June 2011 (UTC)
- Hi, Russell. I don't mean to pester you, but I really would appreciate it if you reviewed Los Alamos National Laboratory. Milton Beychok 21:18, 9 July 2011 (UTC)
Rewrite of Karl Marx

Need Editor to comment/support/reject Europe
Russell, will you let us know if we can approve Europe. Your help would be greatly appreciated. —Anthony.Sebastian 22:00, 5 June 2012 (UTC), Approval Manager
Re Pompeii
Russell, thank you for initiating a what eventuated in a productive dialogue with Richard Nevell that greatly improved the article. I plan to approve it tomorrow.
Do you have any colleagues you might interest in contributing to Citizendium? Anthony.Sebastian 23:13, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
Malthusianism
Hi Russell, I came across the article on Malthusianism by hitting the 'random page' button and seeing what turned up. It's not my period, but seems sound and was put together by Richard Jensen. Do you think it would be worth putting it through the approval process? Richard Nevell 19:38, 22 February 2013 (UTC)
Nominations for the Management and Editorial Councils
You have been nominated for seats on both the Management and Editorial Councils in the July-August Special Election. The nominator was myself. To accept or decline these nominations, please visit the Nominations page here (for the Management Council seat) and here (for the Editorial Council Editor seat) by midnight UTC on July 27th. You may write an election statement for each if you wish (linked from the Nominations page).
The Management Council seat runs until June 30th, 2014 or June 30th, 2015 (the successful candidate with the fewest votes receiving the shorter term) and the Editorial Council seat expires on December 31st, 2014. In the event that Referendum 1 is passed, all seats will expire on June 30th, 2014. Thanks! John Stephenson 17:01, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
Skepticism
I took the subpage template off of Skepticism because, as far as I can tell, there is no skepticism page in Citizendium and that one is not intended as a subpage. If I am wrong, your guidance would be appreciated. Thanks for your interest. Thomas Butler 00:58, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
- After communicating with User talk:Hayford Peirce, I restored the subpage template, figuring I need to learn a little more. Thomas Butler 01:07, 18 February 2014 (UTC)
