Mario Bunge is an Argentine physicist and philosopher of science (born 1919) working since 1960s at McGill University in Montreal,Canada. He was awarded the Prince of Asturias Prize in 1982 and has received many honorary doctorates from European and American Universities.

Mario Bunge created a science-based philosophical system encompassing semantics, ontology, epistemology and ethics (Treatise on basic philosophy,1974-1989) characterized by a naturalist (materialist) and realist outlook.
