User talk:David William Tolfree
Welcome!
Welcome, new editor! We're very glad you've joined us. Here are pointers for a quick start. Also, when you get a chance, please read The Editor Role. You can look at Getting Started for other helpful introductory pages. It is essential for you as an editor to join the Citizendium-Editors mailing list in order to stay abreast of editor-related issues. If you wish, just ask me to create a "personal sandbox" for you where you can test out editing and writing articles. If you need help to get going, it is a good idea to join our discussion forums. That's where we discuss policy, proposals or technical problems. You can ask any constable for help, too. Just put a note on their "talk" page. Again, welcome and thank you! We appreciate your willingness to share your expertise, and we hope to see you begin actively editing and contributing to Citizendium. Milton Beychok 18:14, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Some ideas for contributions
Dear David, welcome aboard CZ. Milton has already given you some hints as to how things work here in general, and I wish to add some more practical suggestions on what possibilities you have to contribute. For a start, I just took some of the keywords from the information you supplied upon registration, and display below the current state of related CZ articles (for icon documentation, see Template:Rpl/Doc):

- Scientific method [r]: The concept of systematic inquiry based on hypotheses and their testing in light of empirical evidence. [e]
- Physics [r]: The study of forces and energies in space and time. [e]
- Nuclear physics [r]: A branch of the science of physics involving nuclei of atoms, sub-atomic particles, and any reactions involving them. [e]
- Engineering [r]: a branch of engineering that uses chemistry, biology, physics, and math to solve problems involving fuel, drugs, food, and many other products. [e]
- Business [r]: A term that relates to the transaction of commerce. [e]
- Technology [r]: Study and practice of applying knowledge creatively to tasks that involve both people and machines; also, the tools, equipment or other products that result from technological knowledge. [e]

- Nanotechnology [r]: Manufacture, characterization and application of materials that have unique properties due to nanoscale size or structure. [e]
- Photography [r]: Art and science of capturing an image on a light sensitive material. [e]
- Optics [r]: A field of scientific, technological, and engineering study and application concerned with understanding light, — typically in the visible, ultraviolet, and infrared ranges of the electromagnetic spectrum — and harnessing it for useful tasks. [e]
- Astronomy [r]: The study of objects and processes in the observable universe, e.g. stars, planets, comets or asteroids. [e]
- Swimming [r]: The act of propelling oneself through water by body movement alone. [e]
- Painting [r]: Art consisting of representational, imaginative, or abstract designs produced by application of coloured paints or pigments to a two-dimensional, prepared, surface. [e]
- Garden [r]: A plot of land used for growing plants for food, recreational purposes or for scientific study; can be private areas of land surrounding a house or public areas shared by the whole community. [e]
- Gardening [r]: Add brief definition or description
- Science fiction [r]: A story-telling genre that presents alternatives to what is currently considered scientifically possible or that extrapolates from present-day knowledge. [e]
In order to find articles dealing with similar topics, it's also worth looking at the Related Article subpages of such an article (or the [r]).
Furthermore, in case you are involved in homework assignments, please consider doing so via Eduzendium articles.
Finally, you can help future newcomers by giving your feedback on the above suggestions. To do so, please leave a note on my talk page.
Looking forward to fruitful collaborative editing, --Daniel Mietchen 00:01, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
Questionnaire
You may have been too busy to deal with the questionnaire that we sent to you (by e mail ) last Tuesday - or you may not wish to complete it . Either way, it would help us to plan our work if you would indicate below whether you intend to complete it.
There is a copy of the questionnaire at user:Nick_Gardner_/Sandbox
