Article name

I think St without a period (or Mr or Mrs or Dr) is a British thing. We seem to have a "conflict of laws" here -- I seem to recall that the Chicago Manual of Style is supposed to be our guide, and it calls for a period if you abbreviate "St."; but CZ also allows articles to be written in different variants of English. Seems that we should standardize, though, so we don't have articles on "St Peter" but "St. Paul" and "Saint Claire". Chicago seems to have a sort of vague preference for spelling it out ("Saint"). Oh, by the way, the Other Place uses "Saint X" as the official title, with redirects from "St. X" and "St X". And as long as we're stirring things up in this general topic, how would one list, say Thomas More? "Sir Thomas More"? Or "Saint Thomas More"?
