De Groot was a Dutch-born gourmet and bon vivant who wrote for many years after World War II about food and drink for a variety of magazines and newspapers as well as writing several books. In Search of the Perfect Meal is sub-titled A Collection of the Best Food Writing of Roy Andries de Groot.
