David, I used to do a lot of laser surgery, with KTP, CO2 lasers, through Zeiss scopes of various kinds, what references are you using for the word "microdissection"? Reading the content so far, it seems to be from the perspective of genomics and tissue collection for diagnostic purposes. Although the article mentions Laser-capture dissection that is the term i have heard used more frequently.

Microdissections sounds more like laser ablation pioneered by Judith Kimball and still used as a tool by developmental biologists.[1] Nancy's description above sounds more like that angle from a surgical perspective.

So does the term microdissection encompass both laser-capture and laser ablation? Chris Day (talk) 19:56, 14 May 2007 (CDT)
