I am a linguist specialising in acquisition of second language phonology and comprehension-based language learning. Following a BA in linguistics (Manchester) and an MA in language acquisition (Durham), I lectured part-time at the universities of York and Durham in the UK. Currently I teach linguistics and English at Mie University in Japan. My first work to be published, 'Learner Attitudes to Comprehension-Based Language Learning' is to appear as a chapter in the Multilingual Matters volume, Input Matters (2007).

- J-Life blog, about linguistics and living in Japan.
- My recent Citizendium edits - look here to see what I've been working on. I am mostly responsible for the original information on many of the Linguistics Workgroup pages.
- Articles which I've made or intend to make a significant contribution to include Linguistics, Second language acquisition, Monitor Theory, the Critical Period Hypothesis, Applied linguistics, Phonology, the Comprehension approach, Japanese English, Singapore English, Martha Young-Scholten, Scarborough... and Doctor Who.
