Netscape Navigator
The Netscape Navigator is a discontinued web browser. Formerly one of the more successful browsers, Netscape saw its userbase dwindle due to competition from Microsoft's Internet Explorer in a conflict dubbed the "browser wars". In 1998, AOL bought the Netscape company. Netscape Navigator 9, which was to become the Netscape Navigator's last release, was released on October 15, 2007. On March 1, 2008, official support for the browser ended.
The browser's legacy exists today as Mozilla. Mozilla was Netscape's mascot and a codename for the Netscape Navigator. In 1998, Netscape founded the Mozilla Organization (later Mozilla Foundation) to order to coordinate the development of the Mozilla Application Suite. Mozilla is best known for the Firefox browser.
