This subgroup deals with the problems classically addressed by operations forums such as the North American Network Operators Group or RIPE, which focus on the routing level and below, as well as key infrastructure functions such as the Domain Name System. While it will principally deal with networks using Internet Protocol over wide areas, it can include multiple user but non-public networks such as secure military systems, and routing-assisted lower-layer technologies such as Multi-Protocol Label Switching and dynamic optical networks.
