Western culture [r]: Culture seen as originating in Ancient Greece and carried along by Ancient Rome, Byzantium, and transformed during the Middle Ages and Renaissance in Western Europe, the United States. It often refers to a political value set which includes democracy, individual rights, popular sovereignty, and representative government.
