Cricket in England and Wales is governed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) which is based at Lord's Cricket Ground at Marylebone in north London.
The ECB administers the main domestic competitions, such as the County Championship and the Minor Counties Cricket Championship, and directs the England national cricket team.
The County Championship is the primary first-class competition in England and Wales and is contested by 18 county clubs:
- Derbyshire County Cricket Club
- Durham County Cricket Club
- Essex County Cricket Club
- Glamorgan County Cricket Club
- Gloucestershire County Cricket Club
- Hampshire County Cricket Club
- Kent County Cricket Club
- Lancashire County Cricket Club
- Leicestershire County Cricket Club
- Middlesex County Cricket Club
- Northamptonshire County Cricket Club
- Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club
- Somerset County Cricket Club
- Surrey County Cricket Club
- Sussex County Cricket Club
- Warwickshire County Cricket Club
- Worcestershire County Cricket Club
- Yorkshire County Cricket Club
Other teams which play non-competitive first-class cricket include Cambridge University Cricket Club, Oxford University Cricket Club and Marylebone Cricket Club.
