The Union of South Africa was a self-governing dominion of the British Empire from May 31, 1910 until May 31, 1961.
Founding
The Union of South Africa was formed by the merger of four previously discrete political units: The British colonies of Cape and Natal and the once-independent Boer republics of the Transvaal and Orange Free State.
