d-dimer = more CTPA

  • excessive use of CTPA with +d-dimer patients -
  • there are many false positives - any inflammatory condition, infectious, malignancy, etc
  • study showed that a +d-dimer, greatly influenced a clinicians decision to order CTPA even when clinical suspicion is low.
