Welcome!

Citizendium Getting Started
Quick Start | About us | Help system | Start a new article | For Wikipedians

Welcome to the Citizendium! We hope you will contribute boldly and well. Here are pointers for a quick start. You'll probably want to know how to get started as an author. Just look at CZ:Getting Started for other helpful "startup" links, and CZ:Home for the top menu of community pages. Be sure to stay abreast of events via the Citizendium-L (broadcast) mailing list (do join!) and the blog. Please also join the workgroup mailing list(s) that concern your particular interests. You can test out editing in the sandbox if you'd like. If you need help to get going, the forums is one option. That's also where we discuss policy and proposals. You can ask any constable for help, too. Me, for instance! Just put a note on their "talk" page. Again, welcome and have fun! D. Matt Innis 14:38, 24 September 2008 (CDT)

Hi Tim. William L. Benzon 19:01, 24 September 2008 (CDT)

Forums

Hi Tim, the forums are a separate entity from the Citizendium wiki, so it needs it's own user ID and password. If I were you, I would register with your same name and password. Once you get your account, be sure to enter your CZ user page at the bottom of the profile page. Then you are set to go. If you enter the forums from the wiki, it should be able to identify you. Let me know if that doesn't work - it's been a long time since I registered! D. Matt Innis 20:17, 24 September 2008 (CDT)

Forums

Tinothy, as I recall, one needs to register separately for the forums. Look around for a "Log in" or "Register" link. Regards, Milton Beychok 21:40, 24 September 2008 (CDT)

probably could apply to be an editor

if you have a phd and publish, you probably could apply to be an editor. Tom Kelly 01:00, 25 September 2008 (CDT)

Thanks, Tom, but before I do that, I'd like to test the waters first and meet some people here. I'll try some minor edits and see how things go. My impression is that the editor role reflects more than merely the editor's credentials but also experience on CZ. So I'll wait a bit -- and thanks for asking! Timothy Perper 05:03, 25 September 2008 (CDT)

Hi Tim, An editors role does not reflect experience at CZ but rather experience with the topic of expertise. Unlike administrators at wikipedia there is no reason to understand the community. Constables serve that role here. So there is no reason why you cannot be an editor from the start. Chris Day 10:23, 25 September 2008 (CDT)
This is a good place to start reading about the role an editor plays here. In short an editor is the same as an author except they have the right to approve an article in a workgroup that they are an editor. let me know if you have any other questions. Chris Day 10:26, 25 September 2008 (CDT)
Thanks, Chris. Let me update my CV and see about this. Timothy Perper 10:40, 25 September 2008 (CDT)

Sandbox

Good morning Tim! I made you a sandbox on your user page. I also left you some instructions on how to create as many as you want! Good luck and have fun! D. Matt Innis 07:40, 25 September 2008 (CDT)

Right kindly of you. Thanks! Timothy Perper 07:43, 25 September 2008 (CDT)

Welcome

Hi Timothy, and a very warm welcome (I'm a biologist whose interests include regulation of reproductive behaviour). You've asked what would we like to see, and there's more than I can say. I'd love to see articles explaining the physiology of arousal and orgasm in humans, monogamy, sexual bonding, gender identity and sexual dimorphisms in behaviour, homosexuality, sexual taboos, and articles exploring cultural differences in attitudes towards sex and historical evolution of attitudes towards sex, about the social impact of contraceptives for example, and the history of their development. I'd be very happy to help (time permitting) in collaborating on articles that involve for example comparative physiology. Who are you writing for? Well we have different articles addressing different audiences, from sophistocated academic (Life) to lay. I think in general that there is the greatest need for articles that are clear interesting and accessible but at the same time rigorous; these are of course not easy to write. Mostly though, go to communicate what you find interesting to write and hope that others will be interested, whatever that is. This, first and foremost must be a forum for what you want to write. The "family friendly" policy is important but I don't think any academic is likely to be constrained by it, it's to exclude prurience, exploitation, pornography and general crassness, not to censor serious intentions Gareth Leng 09:26, 25 September 2008 (CDT)

Fixed your sandbox.

Timothy, I fixed it. Look in the upper left hand corner of your user page.

There is also a link to it on the top of this page.

My response to your question on my Talk page

Timothy, please read my Talk page (here) for my response about your question on how to revise Citizendium articles without annoying the original authors or major contributors to those articles. Regards, Milton Beychok 14:19, 26 September 2008 (CDT)

Romanisation of Japanese

We have been trying to come up with consistent romanisation for Japanese and other languages at CZ:Romanization. If you're interested you can add to/modify the page at CZ:Romanization/Japanese or discuss it on the Talk page. Regards, John Stephenson 01:25, 27 September 2008 (CDT)

Thanks -- but it isn't my field at all. I personally prefer Hepburn and macrons to "ou" spellings -- shōjo, not shoujo -- but beyond that, I'll do my best to follow whatever system you experts come up with. Timothy Perper 10:12, 27 September 2008 (CDT)

Catalog?

I don't know anything about Manga but that list of 200 references is massive. Looking through it you might want to consider using a catalog subpage for some of the published titles. This might make it easier to browse through them quickly. Chris Day 03:29, 5 October 2008 (CDT)

Sounds like a good idea. I didn't know such things existed! But I will find out about them. At the moment, with the essay in draft form, I'm going to keep everything together, but that can change when we put it into the "Manga" page itself. Timothy Perper 03:38, 5 October 2008 (CDT)

Images

I've never uploaded an image to CZ. They've got a CZ:Upload-Wizard with a bunch of choices. It's not obvious to me which of those apply. Perhaps you should ask around. --William L. Benzon 08:53, 6 October 2008 (CDT)

Uh-huh. That's what I'm gonna do. Timothy Perper 09:00, 6 October 2008 (CDT)

Anime

I'm starting a new Sandbox page for anime, at User:Timothy Perper/SandboxAnime. Come visit and help improve the article. Timothy Perper 22:12, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
