South Korea (Korean: Nam-han), officially the Republic of Korea (Korean: Dae-han Min-guk[1]),[2] is a constitutional republic comprising the southern part of the Korean peninsula, which protrudes southward from the Northeastern Asian mainland and lies between the Yellow Sea and the Sea of Japan (East Sea). Its East Asian neighbors are North Korea, China, and Japan, which are, culturally and historically, very strongly linked with South Korea on multiple levels. The capital city, Seoul, is the second largest city in the world, and it is situated near the 36th Parallel that divides the two Korea's.
