Zugspitze

Zugspitze is, at 2962 meters, the highest mountain in Germany. Zugspitze is located in the Wetterstein Range of the Northern Limestone Alps, on the border between Austria and Germany. Roughly two thirds of the mountain lies within Germany, while the remainder is under Austrian ownership. The Zugspitze hosts a ski area upon the Zugspitzplatt, a glacier south of the summit. Access to the summit is by means of cable cars from either the Eibsee, near Grainau, Germany, or from Erwald, Austria. The glacier and ski area can be reached by another cable car from the summit, or by cog-wheel train from Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. Various local hiking trails reach both the summit and the glacier from both Germany and Austria.
