The mesosphere is the layer of Earth's atmosphere above the stratosphere. The mesosphere lies at altitudes between about 50 km and 80 km. The top of the mesosphere is called the mesopause.

The mesosphere is the highest layer within the homosphere, which is the part of Earth's atmosphere where gaseous constituents are well-mixed.
